Electricity consumption is projected to grow 2.5 times faster than overall energy demand to 2030. On August 23, the world’s leading transmission and distribution experts will attend the CIGRE Paris Session 2026 to explore how to meet this imminent need. Many exhibitors and visitors will have also attended IEEE T&D in Chicago earlier this year. Here Seo Kanghyeon, our business development manager for conductor cores, shares his tips on how to prepare for a big event like this, from attracting visitors to making meaningful connections on the show floor.

CIGRE Paris is the world’s leading event for power system expertise. Held every two years, specialists from transmission and distribution sectors gather to share knowledge in technical group discussions, tutorials, and workshops. At the event, major European end customers will operate their own stands, promoting the opportunity also for suppliers to approach potential business leads.

This opportunity will be invaluable in Paris, as it was in Chicago. Our experience at the IEEE Power & Energy Society T&D event of proactively approaching potential customers and partners led to successful discussions. The technical teams from companies exhibiting at CIGRE will be able to introduce the company and technologies to explore business leads and engage with decision makers in new markets.

Preparing to succeed

While customer interactions are important, preparing for the event begins months before. Reviewing the participating companies and attendees ensure you properly understand the audience and organize meetings ahead of the event. Our approach in Chicago followed this practice, compiling a list of key companies comprised of the audience we wanted to reach. We researched activities and interests of our targets and prepared our booth with suitable props, leaflets and samples, making it a must-visit spot for attendees.

Companies we wanted to interact with were contacted to set up face-to-face meetings, organized via LinkedIn weeks before the event. Preparing in this way enabled us to build an appointment calendar targeted at specific contacts, ensuring we conducted productive meetings and developed strong relationships. To continue these discussions, we also actively encouraged potential customers to register for CIGRE Paris in the lead up to the event, sharing our booth number (A72) and arranging time-specific meetings.

Events like this are also a great way to network and share experiences with the competitors. Visiting competitor booths and understanding their technologies, products they are emphasizing, and messages being delivered to customers can provide valuable market insights as well as help to tackle some common obstacles together. The goal for all is to better understand customer needs and the emerging challenges.

During the event week, our director of product management Dr Antti Hassinen and product manager Heini Kloster will be presenting technical papers on the testing methods and sustainability of the composite conductor cores. The discussions will showcase Exel’s expertise to an even broader audience of utilities, conductor manufacturers, and industry stakeholders. These technical sessions enable networking opportunities also outside of the busy exhibition area, encouraging participants with specific industry challenges to attend and seek solutions from experts.

Technical sessions of CIGRE Paris present the opportunity to explore outside of a participant’s niche, allowing attendees to refresh their knowledge on an older topic or learn something completely new. These learnings can then be used as a base for the next event preparations.

“The number of papers we have received will ensure an in-depth knowledge sharing session, resulting in profound transformations associated with the global energy transition,” said Konstantin O. Papailiou, the President of CIGRE. The future of power systems can be shaped by CIGRE Paris, essential for the expected rise in electricity demand across Europe from 2026-2030. The collaborative ideas discussed at the event will play an important part in developing transmission and distribution technologies, building power security for Europe. So, grab your notebook and business cards and join the preparations for the most electrified week of Parisian August!
