Frangible masts for wind direction indicators and weather observation equipment

We design and manufacture many frangible support masts for wind direction indicators (WDI) and other weather equipment, such as forward scatter meters, anemometers, wind cones and transmissometers that located in the active area of airfields.

Our masts are certified in compliance with frangibility standards, and have been subjected to full-scale impact tests (ADM6 - Aerodrome Design Manual part 6).

We deliver both complete products with the wind cone and obstruction light (internally or externally illuminated), or without additional products as just the mast only.

Anemometer lattice masts

Typically, anemometers are installed on lattice masts.

Our frangible masts come in a standard 10-meter height, however we supply other heights as needed.

The masts are available in a standard orange and white colored pattern; we can accommodate other color schemes as needed.

Key features

Compliance: our structures are fully compliant with ICAO and FAA frangibility requirements.

UV protection: sun damage over time adds to maintenance costs. Our composite solutions resist the damage prolonged exposure to UV light has on structures.

Easy-access design: we provide the option for a hinged structure that allows you to tilt the tower (from the base, or half-way up the tower). This eliminates the need to bring additional ladders or lifts into the work zone, and improves people safety.

Low maintenance: our composites resist rot, corrosion, and guard against UV damage. They have a very low coefficient of thermal expansion and do not swell or contract in extreme heat and cold.

Our structures can be easily painted, and will withstand the harshest of weather conditions.

Our masts are hinged at the base for easy access to the weather equipment.
